Featured Pages : Part I. Web & Part II. Net

Each webmaster lives many lives. First, you build a page. Yes, a single page. Then, you add a few.... and more. Next -- you are making directories, because you have to store all the files you are using (graphics, sounds). Your Web grows as long as you are working. suddenly, you discover that you have to spend many hours maintaining your pages. The worse, more you work, more work is needed!

Aha! You are becoming a webmaster!

Yeah, yeah, I am thankless! Two years ago I was happy when anybody would visit my pages. Then, ten visitor a day was a big deal. Then -- hundred impression a day. And now I am not satisfied with anything less than one thousand/day?

Preface

2005: I don't know how much you can learn from reading my webmaster's webpages. I still keep them to reflect on the countless hours I spend behind my computer. Yes, at first, you are happy to have any visitor! Ten? Great! After a while you look down at the pages that get less than 100 readers... Not reliable Yahoo counters show over "100.000" page-views in many directories on my vtheatre.net... So, what? 100K is nothing, says the aged webmaster in me. 100.000 a month -- that's something!

Google has 200 mls a day!

No, I am not that mad; I understand the difference between Google and my pages, but I also understand the numbers' game the universe plays...

I did many crazy things in my life. I was born. I was Russian. But I never thought that I defected from the Soviet Union to become a webmaster!
No, I even didn't know that such a thing exist!
Well, what do we know about our destiny?

Before the Web and After
Young man, I know it's hard to believe that there was the world before the Web.
No, the Internet was created by god at the last minute....

We did it. We are to blame.

The webmasters.

But first, about this title.

Master, my foot! Most of the personal websites are done by the amaturs and you see it on my own websites! What a grammer! What a spelling! Why all are the masters?

Because we are the slaves! The victims of our own vanity. We all want to be selebrities, we want to star! Or at least to be noticed!

The super-technologies offer a lot to a little man with a big ego.

Look, when you spend so much time on webpages, you learn. And you want to reflect of what you learn -- that is how how "webpages about webpages" came to be. I wrote them for myself; mostly to keep the focus on what I have to do.

In many ways any webpages are "diaries" -- all the files and changes are dated. There are even updates recorded (see the numbers next to the numbers of visitors -- top right).

So, I thought I shoudl consiladed my "webpages about webpages".... Here is a problem. I have WEB directory on every website I have. Why? Because the support pages (and this what they are -- to serve the content pages) arr different, depending on the subject. The aim is different and the tasks. The design must different. This is about the IDENTITY of each website!

You have to find it -- the identity of your site. It's in graphics, in narrative, style of writing -- and the structure of the site. The architecture of the site starts with organizing your directories and subdirectories. Your templates....

I learn it backwards. Now I have to think-through the PLAN before I start producing the content pages. I think about the SYSTEM.

The CONCEPT is the answer.
