filmplus.org/web -- business of web @ film-north
... Internet and Web are developing faster than I can understand the changes. I record the changes at my own webpages, that's all. I gave up on technical aspects of web. Also, on web2.0 [ community webbing ]... And on aesthetics of web. What is left? VT = virtual theatre (in theory). ...

... People rarely read Web pages word by word; instead, they scan the page, picking out individual words and sentences... But I want readers, I want "reloads" -- not "unique" visitors, I want they to come and stay, reading! *
[ advertising space : webmaster ] BANNERS + POPUPS + LINKS It's all about the Plan. Do you have it? Did you "plan" your website? I didn't. It was wrong. Look at eNotes page; I understood that such a page is a must for any directory, but since the web directory @ Theatre w/Anatoly had no direction, you can find there a little bit of everything. My "notes" pages are for myself, but open them for the readers to see the process, to see what is not there yet. and this is the style of the book. The transparency! There is a page eNotes which born long ago, but had no life in it. There are many pages like that. They wait. There are pages that bloom and die. There are still there, but nobody visits them, even the webmaster himself. I hope you understand now the nature of "traffic" -- it's all about DESIRE. Yes, this primitive desire to be. What elese does matter to us?
Oh boy! "Free" web-servers are disappearing without a note, or go "pay"! I lost several sites! I should expect it. Free? Give me a break! Listen, very soon they will corner me, because I have to choice but to pay (too much work is put in) -- and guess what? You will be paying for surfing my sites. Yes, yes, that is how it works, my friend. Somebody has to pay. I worked on my webpages, I invested in them my labor -- well, now it's your turn. All what will be left for free -- the teasers! Go and see the porno sites, they got it right. The rest is to follow. Webmasters, pay attention!

2004 :
For a few days I try to fix my webpages about webpages. There are out there on each my website, but there is no inner connection between them and, if you are a webmaster and would to know what master Anatoly thinks about web and net, it's difficult to follow this ebook. What book? "Webman's Diary"! On your left the frame with all the WEB directories of all my sites (almost all). Also, the GuestBooks -- use the one close to your subject matters. The popup mini-window with my different emails. [removing them!]

... It took a day to put together the basic structure of the book, it will take weeks [years] to fix the pages.Ah, yes, the diary. Didn't you see the counter and next to it -- the date when the page was updated? Every webpage is a diary page. Every page is somebody's cry for attention. If not for this web-revolution one might think that human race is finally content. What didn't have get yet? We have everything. Except for this silly constitutional statement about "happiness"....Web taught me more than my experience with writing, that the drafts are everything. If "writing is rewriting" -- the webbing is redoing. You see, webpages are not just text, but HYPER-TEXT, they require more labor!
Webpages are the little machines.
They have to have their own life. Links is only a part of it.
Page works only, if it leads to another page! Webmasters write "codes" not words! I have no time for words. What? Literature? No! Captions for pix!Page must have dynamic content in order to be revisited!
Great pages are bookmarked!
We want to be masters of our own life. At least as webmasters. And what do we do? We slave to give our hearts to the strangers!
PS. The continuation of what I wrote on Diary Notes page.
As I promised you, it will be sketchy and personal.
What is ahead?
... I started it long ago, when I knew next to nothing about web-building. And I didn't have a plan. We live in Alaska and I thought that I am too should have "personal homepage"....
Well, my professional sites grew. I worked on Sellassie pages, but "GeoAlaska" (vtheatre.net) was dead. Almost dead. We tried several things with it (you still can see the pages and directories of this period), but I didn't know how to do it, the personal page. I wanted it to be personal.
I opened Diary, but this directory has no life in it either.
So, what's the problem? Why other people have no problems with their "personal" pages?
Even this very page is again not about me, but the webmaster in me!
[ After three years of web-building I feel disappointed with the Web; too much trash. I installed the HTMLgears for self-submitting the links... What do I get? Stupid commercial links. I guess, there are so many desperate people, who think that they can make money on the Internet this way. Second, the feedback. Next to nothing. The guestbooks -- you read them. And, of course, the "free servers"! They all will be gone sooner or later. And I have to be become "paid members only" webmaster... ]
... Did you you read "TimeProduction" in POV?
Well, let me explain it in simple terms. You heard about the service (or consumer) ecomony? What does it mean? Let me be rude, please, for the clearity' sake. There are billions suckers and losers in the world. They work 8 hours, they sleep for another 8 hours -- and there is the third of their life they have no idea what to to do with, and the extra money they have to waste. Will they invest? No, it's work. They worked already from 9 to 5. Forget the babies and the elderly, there are billions of those with too much time on their hands and the cash. When they surf the net, they are looking for a place to release it -- the time and money. It's a burden, you suffer, because they feel lonly or unwanted -- and they ready to pay for drugs. Only few of them go to church or do care for their kid's homework. I don't blame them, I am a libertarian.
So, one hundred came to your site, and we will calculate the millennium age of $5, and they spent an hour surfing. What? $500 a day? Yes! But this is a potential only. They are wasting their time (and you, webmaster, too if you are not getting the money), but how to turn it into the "cold hard cash" as they say?
Here is the difference between "canvasing" and "closing" -- if you know what I mean. The closing is the big problem on the Net. You and them want it; they -- because they spent their time browsing, you -- because your time (money) were put into building your pages.
No, no, I do not expect you to make $500 an hour out of their hours! I am talking about the the size of money/time production. Let me extend it for a month (the ideal case, all them do it every day): $500 X 30 = $15.000! Do you want to see what those 100 souls will do in the years checking your pages? $15K X 10 (excluding the sick days and vocations) = $150.000... Sorry, I forgot to ask how much do you make.
Now, the real issue. The "How" part.

... webpages make sense only if there is a story behind each directory. I hoped that it will happen by itself. I was wrong. 3.20.2009 [vtheatre.blogspot.com]
3.20.09 -- WEB was my (last) hope to write... and be read. It's not about to happen. How much traffic will justify the time I spent online?
But what is there to read? ... Silence. And that's the story.
