After you are done with the building your site, you have to plug it in.
Here comes the Net.
The links to your site.
Without them in many places, nobody will ever know that you exist.
Do you have your OWN net? Mailing List, for example? I do not have it.
I have a lot of subscribers to sellassie.zzn.com
How else would keep the two way steet connection? How else will your users know about the new and updates?
Without YOUR OWN NET you can't use the big net!
Do you know who they are, your visitors? Do you the poll on this page? I have several of such tools.
Do you see HTMLgears? I have to know how my own pages compete -- who is popular and who is not in my web family. How else I can do the redEsigning?
And the counters. On every page, not one for all pages. And the guestbooks, and ...
You see, this is how you prepare your web for the Net.
Do you have "New" or "News" pages?
You have to make your pages "smart" -- interactive and functional.
How long your average visitors stays on your pages? Do they leave after one page? Two, five, ten? How often do they return? (You better have email link on EVERY page).
The big Net out there is growing and should grow too. I desided to stop submissions to the engines, nowadays their robots do it anyways. My business is to organize my pages for the vitors Yahoo and others send to me.
Here is the marketing, friends. Yes, yes, webmaster, do your know your market?
I have to narrow it every time I do the revision: Virtual Theatre? Acting? Too broad. How about Method Acting only? More -- Method Acting for Directors. Better!
Make sure that you are getting not accidental surfers, but the users, the quality traffic. You do not need astronimic numbers of porno sites and portals. Their numbers are about the seekers, yours -- users! You are the end of the search! You are at the end of the Net.
2003 & After 2007
What you have is a sleeper.
You have to do what is known as marketing and promotion.
You have to advertise yourself, friend.
This is why I placed the Net as a part two of the "Diary of a Webman" -- you do not have to do it, if you use your pages for storage of the data for your own use.
If you don't know, there are many places where you can store your data. Many with the special features. The webpages are to be seen by many.
It depends. Depends on the nature of your "product"! But remember that WWW is World Wide Web! Yes, yes -- world wide! Web over the world! How web is different from the "net"?
How different is a spider from a fisherman?
No, you do not have to wait when they will come to you, you can go after them!
Turn your web into your net!
Don't kill like a spider your victums (those who came to your webpages), let them go and bring to you the others! Let them work! They will be back, if you have good pages. Do you have them, the quality webpages? If the answer is yes, we can talk about the NET
